Genelia

This cute girl-next-door was till now unrecognized and struggling to make her mark (at least in Bollywood ) until Aamir Khan’s ‘Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na’ changed her life completely.

Noted astro numerologist Bhavikk Sangghvi predicts what’s in store for the lovely Genelia D’souza who shares her birthday with the versatile Kajol. ( No wonder news about her special day was overshadowed, thanks to most of us who are die hard Kajol fans ). Here’s what Bhavikk has to say about Genelia –

” Born on 5th August 1987, Genelia is a Number 5 ( 1 + 4 = 5 ) in numerology ruled by Number 5 ( Mercury ), Number 1 ( Sun – Leo ) and Numbers 2 and 7 ( Moon and Neptune – 5 + 8 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 38 = 3 + 8 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 ) “.

” Her name vibrates on Number 51 which represents power, strength and sudden advancement in life. After doing some inconsequential roles and films here, the super success of Jaane Tu…has definitely kick started her second innings in Bollywood this year in 2008 ( 2 + 0 + 0 + 8 = 1 ) which adds to Number 1 – her best number “.

” Genelia has just entered the 22nd year ( 2 + 2 = 4 ) of her life which is most likely to bring her a lot of stress, depression and loneliness at least till the year end. She should take every decision with a lot of thinking. Wearing a ‘Pearl’ ( above 4 carats ) will definitely help her keep her cool and be calm and composed ” advises Bhavikk.” But the year 2009 ( 2 + 0 + 0 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 ) which adds up to Number 2 is again amongst her best numbers and from here onwards, things will work for her – both professionally and personally. Especially the time after August 2009 is simply excellent with no stopping her ” Bhavikk ends on a positive note.Way to Genelia !

Q. How do you define Fashion?
A. Everyone defines fashion in their own ways. Fashion is something which is different everyday. It changes every now and then. People start with a particular trend and everyone follows it and that becomes fashion.

Q. Where do you normally shop your clothes from?
A. I shop from anywhere and everywhere. I like shopping when I am travelling, especially abroad. If I am in town then I mostly shop from Bandra and if it’s accessories it has to be from Linking road, Bandra and Colaba Causaway.

Q. Which brands do you prefer buying?
A. I am not all that a brand conscious person but if I am abroad then I like collecting branded stuffs.

Q. Do you often visit fashion shows?
A. Yes, of course. I have many friends into modeling and from the fashion world and whenever I get time I see one of them.

Q. Who’s your favourite fashion designer?
A. It has to be Rocky S and obviously Manish Malhotra. They are so great in their work that they completely transform a person from nothing to everything (Laughs).

Q. What was the costliest outfit you have ever bought?
A. I guess it was a sari which priced me around 25K. I have many designer saris mostly from Satya Paul. He creates magnificent sari. I also love collecting sari so that I can wear them after my marriage (laughs).

Q. Which is your favourite party wear?
A. My favourite party wear will mostly be a short black dress.

Q. What kind of clothes comforts you the most?
A. It is for sure tracks and tank tops. Even a pair of jeans and a top will do.

Q. Any particular color you opt for while buying your clothes?
A. I love wearing shades of white. My wardrobe has a collection of all the possible colors.

A. Nothing much. But yes I would suggest that wear anything that comforts you. Comfort should be given top priority.

Anything that you wear should be good and a person should be able to carry it off well. If he can’t then even a Manish Malhotra costume will look cheap on him. – Pratik Maheshwari

Priyanka Chopra admits that she hasn’t rested for more than a year now. 2008 especially has been crazy with five releases already to her name and sixth round the corner in the form of Dostana.

However, she doesn’t mind all the excitement coming her way as she hardly has got time to mourn over the failure of her movies or revel in the success of Fashion. Joginder Tuteja catches up with Priyanka Chopra hours before her Dostana gets ready to hit the screens.

Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku, Drona, Fashion and now Dostana – Whew!
(Laughs) Ya, these are indeed exciting times. I could use so many adjectives to describe what I feel but well, in the end it’s all so scary. There are so many expectations that one attaches to a project. It is like sitting in Board examinations month after month.

Dostana still sounds like a safe film after all. Promos give an impression that it is an out and out fun film.
There are a little bit of emotions attached to the film as well. At the end of the day it is mainstream cinema and it has to be interesting. Dostana is not a random candy floss entertainer.

Since the film has been made for commercial audience, it has to tell an engaging story. Here things turn really different. That’s because when I interact with the characters played by Abhi and John, it gives a different dimension to a man-woman relationship.

It’s really fun because I am there with these two guys who are supposed to be in a romcom relationship of their own!

A film with two men in a romcom affair? And you were still game for it?
I was sold the moment Tarun (Mansukhani) narrated the film to me. I didn’t have any apprehensions because Tarun was so clear in admitting this very basic fact to the world on screen. He wanted to bring things out of closed doors and make the world know that this too is a part of society around us.

But wasn’t there any apprehension about non-acceptance of the film? What if it doesn’t turn out to be a hit?
Also, Tarun is a first time director.
You can’t pick a film thinking whether it would be a hit or not. How can you even do some calculations?
Yes, you do assess the commercial viability of the subject but beyond that you have to leave it to the conviction of the director.

And let me tell you that I wasn’t even thinking about Tarun being a debutant director here. I have worked with quite a few since I made my debut and while some of them have made fantastic films, some haven’t.

But that can’t deter me from saying no to someone just because he/she hasn’t been entrusted with this responsibility before. Come on, someone gave me a first chance too!

Karan’s association with the project would have reassuring enough though?
Having Karan around is great but Dostana is Tarun’s baby all the way. It is written and directed by him and knows the subject inside out while Karan hardly came on the film’s sets.

Moreover, I myself come with so many questions while working on a film and sometimes it can become really testing times for the directors. Still, Tarun braved all of it and answered all my questions. That shows his understanding, commitment and conviction.

You earlier mentioned that Dostana has some emotional moments as well. The KJo effect?
I won’t say that the film has trademark Karan Johar stamp of emotional moments in Dostana. But then yes, there are moments where you get a lump in your throat. There is some softness in heart that comes on and just like there are some ups and downs in every feel good entertainer, the same is the case with Dostana too.

Softer songs like ‘Kuch Kum’ and ‘Khabar Nahi’ do promise that, isn’t it?
Yeah. In the narrative they really do well. I know that songs like ‘Desi Girl’, ‘Maa Da Laadla’ and ‘Shut Up and Bounce’ are a rage today but I know for sure that once the films release, others too would pick up well amongst the audience.

Coming to your much talked about look; there are talks about the hard work you put in shaping your body for Dostana.
(Smiles) It’s great that after Fashion, my look is being noticed in Dostana as well. However, I know for myself that hard work was there in Drona or Love Story 2050 or for that matter even Don. It’s just that currently we are talking only about Dostana or Fashion.

But your weight loss is quite apparent in Dostana?
It’s my luck that I was working on both Fashion and Dostana together. For the early part of Fashion, I had to put some weight to depict the chubby look of a Chandigarh girl.

Then for the Mumbai shoot of Fashion which showed my journey to the top as a supermodel, I had to loose weight. The look I acquired for Fashion also helped Dostana because I was training hard and was fast acquiring a well toned physique.Last but not the least, one can’t help but ask this question. How does Bobby Deol’s character bring the twist in the plot of Dostana. And please don’t say – ‘Watch the film’!

When Aamir started training for Ghajini, he was busy with the post-production and editing of his maiden directorial flick Taare Zameen Par. Yet, he didn`t give any excuse of not having time and devoted three full hours everyday for his work-out. His routine consisted of 10 minutes stretching and warm ups, one hour of weights, an hour of cardio and 40 minutes of abs exercises.Personal trainer Satyajit Chaurasia is not one to let go easily and was responsible for making Aamir go the extra mile. With each passing day, the results began to show on Aamir`s body.According to Aamir, getting the perfect body has more to do with your mental endurance level rather than your physical endurance level.

Asin from Gajini………

I Like Incomplete Romance In Ghajini: Asin

Well known actress in the South, Asin made her debut in Bollywood opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini that released last week. After starring in original Tamil version opposite Surya, the actress said that working in the Hindi remake posed its own set of challenges.

To be seen next opposite of Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in Vipul Shah’s London dreams, Asin is surely a talent to look out for.

Rajeev Masand (CNN-IBN): Welcome Asin and congratulations for the success of the film. Let’s do some flashback, about a year ago when they came and offered you to do Ghajini again, what was the first question you had when they told you they were to re-make it in Hindi.

Asin: No questions at all. I knew that Aamir Khan wanted to see the Tamil version and that he had heard about it and there was a special screening of the movie for him in Mumbai.

I then received a call from him, which I thought was a very nice gesture from his side. He congratulated me for the film and he absolutely loved it.

He spoke about my character and then we had a conversation at the end of which he casually asked me if I speak Hindi and if i would be interested in doing any Hindi projects and I said yes, if anything interesting comes along I will. Well, I had no idea they were planning to do it in Hindi.

A few days later the production house calls me and tells that they are remaking it and that Aamir Khan is starring in it. They wanted me to do the same role that I did in Tamil. I was excited. There were no questions. I knew the people, I knew the script. Just the excitement.

Rajeev Masand : Wasn’t it boring to do the same role, same movie again?.

Asin: I wasn’t thinking about it that way. There was a comfort level. I knew the role, the character, the same director. But it wasn’t monotonous because the rest of the team was new.

Rajeev Masand: What I enjoyed about Ghajini was the romance and the fact that the romance was unfinished in the film. Even the first step of knowing each other was incomplete.

Asin: I think it is the slight pain that is left with the audience after watching the movie, in fact I got calls from people saying- “you know Kalpana, that was actually Sanjay Singhania”.

I think it worked for the film and what we intended got conveyed. I also think that the romance forms a strong emotional base that kind of justifies the pain and action in the film.

For me this romance is quite charming because usually these days we have boy meets girl and some kind of physicality comes in, but this is so pure.

Here the only time they even hold hands or almost hold hands is in the cement slab scene. I found it very beautiful and very rare in cinema these days so that was quite attractive.

Rajeev Masand: A lot of people say that they found the character of Kalpana very refreshing. She is a girl who everyone would like to know, the kind of girl that you almost believe doesn’t exist. So how much are you like Kalpana? .

Asin: Well, a lot. In fact I don’t tell so many lies and tall tales, but a lot. I am quite mad that way and so is she. She can be over the top at times and i call her the complete girl package. Because she is naughty, she is nice, she is kind and charming, silly all rolled into one.

Rajeev Masand: Since you have acted in the Tamil version too, were there any changes that you have brought or did you feel there were things that you wanted to improve on?. The romantic track was pretty much faithful in the Hindi one when compared to the Tamil version, but did you do any small little changes yourself?

Asin: Not consciously. I don’t know if something came about sub-consciously because the director and the whole team was particular that she had to be the same, untouched, just like that and it worked so well.

And that is one difficult part about doing a film, something that has worked well, and so magically over there which makes you think, so what is the x-factor that you have to re-create to get the magic all over again.

It’s in that moment. In that combination and you don’t know what has worked there and it is kind of tough to make it a success again.

Rajeev Masand: Well, best of luck and looking forward to seeing lots more from you

Asin: Thank you.

Bollywood charm , Shakti Kapoor who holds the world record for acting in most films with his villainous and comic actions is now acting in a Nepali movie.

We have a lot of Nepali films in which Indian actors, singers and film makers are involved. For instance, the making of Satya Harishchandra by Hira Singh Khatri, Maitighar feat Mala Sinha, Sunil Dutt, Deepak Chaudary and playback singing by Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeskar, Lata Mangeskar, etc.

The “Aau…..Lolita” man, Shakti Kapoor too is following the footsteps of other Bollywood stars and soon heading to Bhojpur for the movie ‘Mrityu Danda’. The movie is reported to have dubbed in both Nepali and Bhojpuri language with two versions. The Nepali version of the movie is directed by Sanu Shakya with other castings like Biraj Bhatta, Rekha Thapa, Mithila Sharma.  Whereas, the Bhojpuri version is directed by Manoj Narayan, who himself is the producer of the movie and has an experience in working in Bollywood fluttering industry with Shweta Tiwari (Prerana of Kasauti Jindagi ki). The funniest and striking part of Bhojpuri version is the title of the movie. Only God knows why the hell, the title of the movie is ‘Hum hai hero hindustani’????? When the director, major actors, shooting crew and even the location are from Nepal.

Shakti Kapoor is charging one Lakh per day and has schedule for total six days, i.e., 6 lakhs. He is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Ram Chhetri

Entering in the world of greasepaint, the wispy ‘chhui mui’ girl, Preeti Jhangiani debuted in the eternal romantic Yash Chopra’s star bonanza, Mohabatein. Cine-goers liked her goody-two-shoes image which was fit-in-glove for the role. The story that you did not know yesterday is that she has done a role in Nepali movie ‘Hamro Milan Kahile Hunachha’ starring Rajesh Hamal, Arun Karki, Sanchita Gurung and directed by Deepak Riamajhi. The movie did its premier in Jai Nepal yesterday with the presence of approximately 300 spectators.

Without knowing the language, how can one star with a role. Thinking this, Prity Jhangania has just lip-synced and boogied in a song, so it is an ‘item dance.’ The overall costing of the song is 9 Lakhs including her fees. It has been shot in Bombay which is 7 minutes long song.

The movie was earlier informed in a press meet to be directed by Raju Sharma but unfortunately, it has been reported that he fled way before the shooting started back in Baishak 2064. So, after a year, Deepak Riamajhi who has given the movies like ‘Yug Dekhi Yug Samma’, ‘Kasam’, ‘Parai Ghar’, ‘Priyash’i and many more has himself produced and directed the movie after that incident. Deepak Riamajhi who has done his Masters in Film Making informed that the movie is in que and will be release from Kathmandu after 6 months. The movie has a message regarding the caste discrimination, violence end and other issues. To see her on the Nepali theatres, audience has to wait for 6 months; till then let’s see her on the telvesion sets as the movie’s promos go on air.
